Okay, so there was only one contest entry (other than what I did to my own netbook), but it would’ve taken something really amazing (like actually implementing any of the AV Club’s suggestions) to top Camilla’s entry.
I’m still accepting submissions: send me a graffiti remix, and I’ll send you a couple graffiti buttons and a copy of the book. Instructions are as follows:
Do something nifty with the graffiti– you choose the medium (video, song, poetry, essay, digital collage, mashup, something physical that can be photographed or mailed, etc). E-mail your entry to me (quinn – at – crescatgraffiti.com) along with info (name, link, etc.) about the graffiti your work is based on.
All entries must have some Creative Commons license; I don’t care which one, but if you don’t specify otherwise, I’ll assume it’s Attribution-Share Alike (just like the graffiti photos).
For the source material, here’s the photos, categorized, and the giant unsorted set. Or you can search. (To make sure you’re finding the right graffiti, be sure to include the tags “graffiti” and “Regenstein Library”). No writing new things on the walls in the Regenstein Library. If your submission somehow involves writing on a wall, you must include a picture clearly showing that it’s not on University property. (e.g. the book cover was written on my bedroom wall.)
I’ll be featuring submissions on the blog and on this page (unless you ask me not to).
Need inspiration? You could try…
- Put Poopy McPoop or Wise Fly to music
- A well-done mashup of some of the songs that the quotes come from (I’d grant an exemption to the Creative Commons license to see this)
- Recreate a doodle in some other medium. A plush fish eating a brain? A diorama of a languishing knight? A real female anti-rape condom (complete with teeth and angry eyebrows)? Cookies frosted with Dave’s design?
