The original graffiti photos are freely available to use under a Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike license! Put them in your blog posts, even if your blog is for-profit (lots of people have already), sell Christmas ornaments with them, put them in a mashup, use them as a book cover, get creative! The only requirements under this license are that you attribute me somewhere (“Quinn Dombrowski” will do; if it’s on-line, a link back here is always appreciated) and if you create a derivative work (by modifying the original in a significant way– including an image on your blog or in a collection of images doesn’t count), that you also use a Creative Commons license. Technically speaking, the requirement is that you use the same license, but I welcome any Creative Commons license. If you’re not sure about the implications of the Share Alike provision, check out Molly Kleinman’s piece on how to work with a Share Alike license.
The derivative works I’ve created (the book, this web site, the t-shirt designs) are under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike license. Molly Kleinman has a great blog post that goes into depth explaining the implications of the non-commercial clause.
If you make something using the graffiti, or use them somewhere, I’d love it if you dropped me an e-mail at quinn – at – crescatgraffiti.com with a picture or URL. It always brightens my day to see where this stuff ends up. I’ll post it to the site too, if you’d like.
